Birth is an initiation.

There are moments in a woman's life that divide everything into a before and an after.

Birth is one of them.

And yet, we have come to speak of it as though it were simply an event. A day on the calendar. A baby to be delivered. Something to get through.

But a baby is not the only one being born.

You stand at the threshold of an extraordinary transformation. One that reaches far beyond your changing body, into the deepest parts of who you are, who you have been, and who you are becoming.

You do not arrive at this threshold empty-handed.

You bring your entire life with you. Every experience that has shaped your relationship with your body. Every story you have inherited about womanhood. Every fear, every belief, every part of yourself you have learned to trust—or silence.

And pregnancy is already asking something of you, long before the first contraction begins.

You are not separate from nature. You are an expression of it.

You are a cyclical being. Like the seasons, the tides, the moon, and the earth itself, your body knows rhythms of growth and release, opening and closing, intensity and rest.

Birth, too, moves in waves.

It is an extraordinary physiological process. But it is never only physiological. It can reach into your emotional, psychological, and spiritual depths, calling forth parts of yourself you may never have met before.

The women before us knew that this passage was worthy of recognition.

Across generations and cultures, women gathered around women. Knowledge was passed from body to body, story to story. Rituals marked the crossing from one chapter of life into another. The becoming of a mother was not always treated as an ordinary event.

And yet, in much of modern birth, something essential has been pushed aside.

We prepare for the baby. We prepare the nursery. We prepare for labor as a medical event.

But who is preparing you?

Who is making space for your fears, your history, your instincts, your questions? Who is helping you understand the magnitude of the passage before you?

Who is reminding you that you are not simply a body in which birth happens?

You are the woman moving through it.

You deserve more than to enter birth afraid of what might happen. You deserve to examine the fears you carry, to understand your body, to know your choices, and to be surrounded by people who recognize the significance of what you are undertaking.

You deserve preparation that honors the whole of you.

This is not a luxury. It is your birthright.

The Birth Cave exists to restore what modern birth has too often forgotten:

The woman.

Her wisdom. Her becoming. Her passage into motherhood.

Because birth is not merely the arrival of new life.

It is a transformation of life itself.

And every transformation needs a space in which to unfold.

A cave. A place to retreat from the noise of the outside world. To turn inward. To feel safe enough to surrender to the rhythms of your body and the unknown of what lies ahead.

You deserve to be held through this passage by people who understand when to guide, when to protect your space, and when to simply be present.

HELEN SIMONYAN · HOLISTIC BIRTH DOULA

The Doula

Helen smiling outdoors beside green trees, wearing a carved pendant.

I'm Helen.

I believe birth is magic. The meeting of heaven and earth, of spirit and flesh, as a woman brings another life into being. My own home birth was a profound initiation into motherhood, one that forever changed the way I understand the strength, wisdom, and vulnerability of a birthing woman. To be trusted with a place in another woman's sacred passage, to tend to her as she brings forth life, is an extraordinary honor.

For generations, women have gathered around women in birth, offering their hands, their wisdom, their presence. Somewhere along the way, we've lost much of that village. I believe every woman deserves to be surrounded by people who truly see her, who know her story, honor her choices, and offer the kind of safety that allows her to surrender to the unfolding waves of birth.

My approach is holistic, rooted in intuition, knowledge, and a deep trust in women and the wisdom of birth itself. Our time together is an invitation to look inward as much as prepare outwardly. To explore your relationship with your body, the experiences that have shaped you, the fears you may carry, and the strength you may not yet recognize in yourself. Alongside practical preparation, knowledge, and informed choices, there is space for the emotional journey of becoming a mother. My hope is that you move toward birth feeling deeply supported, confident in your own wisdom, and surrounded by the kind of care that allows you to be fully yourself.

A little more about me →

The right person matters.

Birth asks us to be vulnerable in ways we may never have been before. Those we invite into that sacred space should make us feel deeply safe, seen, and understood. Safe enough to surrender, to express ourselves freely, and to be wholly ourselves, without holding anything back.

Whether that person is me or someone else, I hope you find someone whose presence feels right to you.

YOUR CARE

What your care can look like.

No two women arrive at birth with the same story, needs, or experiences. The care we create together begins with yours.

Our work goes beyond preparing for labor. We make space for the experiences you carry, your relationship with your body, your hopes and fears, and the changes unfolding within you. Alongside this deeper preparation, we explore the physiology of birth, your options and preferences, and the practical ways you and those supporting you can prepare.

Whether we begin early in pregnancy or closer to birth, our time together is shaped by what matters most to you.

Prenatal preparation

Emotional, psychological, physical, and spiritual preparation. Together, we explore your relationship with birth, understand its physiology, work through fears and expectations, clarify your birth preferences, and prepare you and your partner to approach birth with greater confidence and trust.

Birth support

A continuous, steady presence through labor and birth, offering emotional reassurance, physical comfort measures, practical guidance, and support in navigating decisions as your birth unfolds.

Postpartum care

Space to process and integrate your birth experience, tend to your physical and emotional recovery, and find your footing in early motherhood, with guidance and resources for the transition ahead.

The village around you

Thoughtful resources, guidance, and connections to trusted professionals when additional support is needed. Because no woman was ever meant to navigate pregnancy, birth, and motherhood alone.

Every journey is different. Your care will be shaped around you.

A deeper look at the themes we may explore together as you prepare for birth and motherhood.

Your birth. Your way.

At home. In a birth center. In a hospital.

I believe every woman deserves to give birth in the environment where she feels safest, most supported, and most at ease.

Whether you envision an intimate home birth, the supportive environment of a birth center, or the reassurance of a hospital setting, my role is not to decide how or where you should give birth. It is to walk beside you as you make those decisions for yourself.

There is no one right way to birth. Only the way that is right for you.
